Rumsfeld to Host Students of Moorefield, W. Va.

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld will welcome students of the Moorefield, W. Va., Middle School to the Pentagon at 11 a.m. EST, Tuesday, Jan.15, 2002.

The students will present a check to Rumsfeld for the rebuilding of the Pentagon.

The Show Your Pride in the Military Act, is a plan that created a separate government fund to allow for private donations to help rebuild the Pentagon, which was the idea of an 8th grader, Lasidi Helmick, from Moorefield Middle School. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W. Va., attached the plan as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2002. The plan authorizes the Secretary of Defense to accept contributions from individuals for the sole purpose of assisting in the repair of the damage caused to the Pentagon by the terrorist attack that occurred on Sept. 11, 2001.

This is a photo opportunity only.

Photographers and cameramen must be at the River Entrance no later than 10:40 a.m. EST for escort to the presentation. Photographers and cameramen interested in coverage of this event may contact Terry Mitchell at (703) 695-0169.
