Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld will make a major speech on the transformation of the U.S. military on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at 12:30 p.m. EST at the Baruch Auditorium, National Defense University (NDU), Washington, D.C.
Following his speech, Rumsfeld and Gen. Tommy Franks, commander in chief, U.S. Central Command, will answer questions from NDU students in the audience.
Media desiring to cover the speech must contact Ned Christensen at (703) 696-4979 no later than 8 a.m. EST, Jan. 31. Access will be via the P Street gate (follow signs in front of the installation). Media representatives must present valid photo identification and valid photo press identification for credentials and admittance. All vehicles will be searched upon entering the installation and media will be credentialed for the event. Media should be at the P Street gate between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. for security checks and credentialing. Calling in advance will expedite admission.
The speech will be uplinked live via two satellites:
C Band: Galaxy 3 position 95 degrees west, transponder 22, frequency 41.40 MHz vertical polarity, audio 6.2-6.8.
KU Band: Galaxy 11 position 91 degrees west, transponder 13, frequency 119.60 MHz horizontal polarity, audio 6.2-6.8.
The speech also will be carried live on Channel 13 of the Pentagon's internal cable system and around the world by the American Forces Radio and Television Service.
