Secretary Rumsfeld To Host Pentagon Memorial Service For "Doc" Cooke

A memorial service for David O. "Doc" Cooke will be held in the Pentagon Center Courtyard Friday, July 12, at 10:30 a.m. EDT. Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld will deliver the keynote address. Cooke, known affectionately as the "Mayor of the Pentagon," died June 22, from injuries suffered in an auto accident that occurred on June 6. His official title was Director of Administration and Management for the Department of Defense. Cooke had worked in the Pentagon for 44 years; he was 81 years old.

The memorial service is open for media coverage. Media representatives without Pentagon building passes who wish to cover this event must have proof of affiliation and two forms of identification, and should be at the Pentagon's River Entrance security booth no later than 9:45 a.m. EDT.
