U.S. Navy Conducts Surface Warfare Commemorative Ceremony
The U.S. Navy will conduct its annual surface warfare commemorative wreath laying in honor of sailors who serve or have served aboard surface ships, Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. EST at the Lone Sailor Statue, U.S. Navy Memorial and Naval Heritage Center, Washington, D.C. The ceremony marks the official finale to the destroyer centennial celebration.
Following the ceremony Rear Adm. Harry Ulrich, director of Surface Warfare, will open the Destroyer Centennial Symposium at the Navy Memorial with discussions on the origins of the destroyer, destroyer participation in conflicts over the last century and the future of the destroyer force within the construct of the Navy's new Sea Power 21 Concept.
