No. 184-02 November 19, 2002
Grand Opening of the Pentagon's New Metro Entrance Facility

A grand opening ceremony for the Pentagon's new Metro Entrance Facility (MEF) will be held Thursday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. EST. The $37 million MEF is the final phase of a congressionally mandated project to improve Pentagon security. Department of Defense director of Administration and Management Ray DuBois will preside over the event, which is open for media coverage.

At noon DuBois will have a photo opportunity at the Pentagon's Phoenix Project site to accept a special award in recognition for the Department's investment in blast resistant windows and other protective measures that saved lives and protected Pentagon tenants on Sept. 11, 2001. The award will be presented by "Protecting People First," a non-profit organization founded by a mother who lost her child due to shrapnel wounds from the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995.

The point of contact for these events is Rachel Decker, (703) 693-0746.
