The Department of Defense will host a demonstration of assistive technology and related services for employees within the DoD and other federal agencies at the Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP) Technology Evaluation Center, Pentagon 2A259, on Wednesday, August 1, 2001, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT.
The event is being called "Teaming up for Success: CAP Services for Federal Agencies Demonstration Day." The focus of the demonstration day will be to highlight the success of the program's service in fiscal 2001 to DoD and 43 other federal partners.
The Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP) provides assistive technology and related services to employees within the DoD and other federal agencies who require an accommodation to access computers or telecommunication systems. Through the provision of assistive technology, expertise, and training, CAP's services make DoD activities and federal offices more accessible to individuals with visual, hearing, dexterity, and cognitive disabilities. TRICARE Management Activity, a field activity under the direction of the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs), serves as the executive agent for CAP.
CAP vendors will be available to provide demonstrations of the latest innovations in assistive technology. People attending the event will have the opportunity to make requests for accommodation; learn about CAP services; gather information on disability policy; join the list of CAP partners; view assistive technology; talk with CAP staff; and learn about the needs assessment process. More information about CAP is at http://www.tricare.osd.mil/cap/ .
