Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld will speak at the opening of Acquisition and Logistics Excellence Week 2001 in the Pentagon auditorium, Room 5A1070, beginning at 9:30 a.m. EDT Monday, Sept. 10.
He will address the need to redirect resources to critical areas for the transformation of the armed forces, reform business practices at the Department, and outline ways to eliminate redundancies in staff and layers of bureaucracy.
Also during the opening ceremony, Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics E. C. "Pete" Aldridge will present the David Packard Excellence in Acquisition Awards to teams from the Army, Navy, Defense Logictics Agency and Air Force-Defense Contract Management Agency.
Acquisition and Logistics Excellence Week 2001 will continue through Sept. 14 and will feature workshops, exhibits, hardware displays and a variety of speakers. More than 20 workshops, ranging from strategic sourcing to enterprise integration, will be conducted during the week.
