The Department of Defense will conduct two news briefings on the fiscal 2001 DoD budget submission. Details of the Feb. 4 and Feb. 7, 2000, sessions follow:
Friday, Feb. 4, 2000: USE OF ALL MATERIALS AND COMMENTS WILL BE EMBARGOED UNTIL MONDAY, Feb. 7, 2000, AT 8 A.M. (All times EST)
1:30 p.m.: Available budget materials will be handed out to the press in Room 2E781 of the Pentagon. A limited number of paper copies of the budget documents will be available to reporters only on Friday afternoon. On Monday, the official release day of the budget, copies will be available electronically at the following Internet site: http://www.dod.mil/comptroller/fy2001budget/.
2:30 p.m.: A Department of Defense official will conduct a background briefing on the overall budget package. Attribution will be to a senior DoD official upon lifting of the embargo. This briefing will be held in Room 2E781 of the Pentagon. No cameras will be allowed; tape recordings will be permitted for note taking purposes only.
3:30 p.m. approximately: Following the briefing, representatives of the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the military Services, and the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization will answer questions in designated Pentagon locations as noted below.
