Deputy Secretary de Leon Ceremony at Ft. Wainwright
Deputy Secretary of Defense Rudy de Leon will deliver remarks and join Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) in a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Bassett Army Community Hospital at Ft. Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska, on April 15, at 10:20 a.m. Alaska Daylight Time.
The new hospital will replace the old facility and keep the same name in memory of and dedication to Captain John W. Bassett, advanced aid station commander who heroically gave his life during a Japanese attack on Attu Island on the western tip of the Aleutian chain on May 29, 1942.
