Former Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Communications

Carl Woog was Deputy Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Communications. In this capacity, Mr. Woog serves as an advisor to the Secretary of Defense and Deputy Secretary of Defense responsible for public affairs planning and strategy across media relations, speechwriting, and social media. He works closely with senior communicators from the White House, National Security Council, State Department, and other agencies.
Mr. Woog previously served as the Deputy Spokesman for Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta representing the Department of Defense on the full range of national security challenges facing the Obama administration.
Prior joining the Department of Defense, Mr. Woog was a Director at the strategic research and consulting firm Penn Schoen Berland Associates where he advised leaders of Fortune 500 companies on crisis communications and public policy matters.
Mr. Woog has worked on political campaigns in Arizona, Ohio, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Mexico, and South Carolina, including John Kerry's campaign for president. He served as a state advisor to the Obama for America campaign in 2008.
Mr. Woog attended Boston University where he earned a Master's degree in Politics and Communications from the University Professors Honors Program under the direction of former Time Magazine editor Lance Morrow and a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and American History, Magna Cum Laude.
He has received the Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service - the Department of Defense's highest civilian honor - and the Defense Medal for Outstanding Public Service.
