AIR FORCE
Yardney Technical Products, Inc., Pawcatuck, Conn., is being awarded a $20,000,000 indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract to provide for the advancement and further development of lithium ion battery technology for use in military applications. Such applications will require tailored battery power, energy levels, or configurations beyond what current commercial lithium ion battery technology can deliver. In order to achieve the objective of this program, the following technical areas must be addressed: manned and unmanned air vehicles; spacecraft applications; directed energy weapon applications and advanced technology/new applications. The Air Force can issue delivery orders totaling up to the maximum amount indicated above, though actual requirements may necessitate less than this amount. At this time, $300,000 of the funds has been obligated. Further funds will be obligated as individual delivery orders are issued. This work will be complete May 2008. Solicitation began November 2002 and negotiations were completed May 2003. The Air Force Research laboratory, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, is the contracting activity (F33615-03-C-2323).
