Defense Transportation

Re-engineering Transportation Documentation and Financial ProcessesThe current processes to document and pay for transportation services are inefficient, expensive, and administratively burdensome to both the Department of Defense and commercial carriers.

Re-engineering DocumentationThat’s why DoD is reengineering its transportation documentation and financial processes to reduce infrastructure, eliminate the use of government-unique documentation, and use a single documentation and billing process for all modes of transportation.

Re-engineering Documentation GoalsWe are achieving these goals by: eliminating government bills of lading for domestic freight transportation and military manifests for commercial sea-lift liner service, and by using a third party to pay commercial transportation bills.

Third Party PaymentIn fact, U.S. Bank’s PowerTrack third-party payment system decreases the number of annual payment transactions from 1.25 million to 108 thousand, pays carriers within 3 days of confirmation, and maintains an on-line auditable record.

Replacing government-unique documentation with commercial documentationWe are also replacing 1.6 million government-unique transportation documents with commercial documentation that’s electronically generated, less data intensive, easier to pay, and less of an administrative burden.
