Although
our warfighters receive the highest quality education and training, our civilian workforce
has not had the same opportunities for professional development.
The Office of the Chancellor for Education was created to
enhance professional educational programs for civilian professionals.
On October 2, 1998, Dr. Jerome F. Smith, former Dean of the National Defense
Universitys Information Resources Management College, was sworn in as DoDs
first Chancellor. The Chancellor is responsible for the quality of the Departments
professional education, including standards for curriculum and faculty.
Our goal is to raise the quality of civilian training and professional
development to world-class standards and to ensure that by the year 2000, consistent
standards for curriculum and faculty are established across the Department.
