For several years DoD has been closing unnecessary bases around the country. But we still have facilities we don’t need. The people and money we spend on maintaining these facilities means dollars not spent on modernization, readiness, and the quality of life for our fighting forces.

In the 1980’s many corporations downsized plant and office space as they reengineered their business practices. We need to do the same as we reform our own business practices and reshape our installations to meet the new missions demanded in the 21st century.

Our strategy is four-fold:

  1. Close excess infrastructure…
  2. Consolidate or restructure support activities…
  3. Examine options for leasing…
  4. And demolish unusable buildings.

Taking these measures to reduce our infrastructure will save millions of dollars in unnecessary costs.
