Among the most serious threats to the United States is the proliferation of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons – weapons of mass destruction, or WMD’s.

The new Defense Threat Reduction Agency, or DTRA incorporates three principles—all of which support and enhance our national security strategy by preventing the WMD threat from becoming reality, and by improving our ability to counter the threat spectrum.

DTRA serves as the focal point for DoD technical expertise in chemical and biological defense issues.

It also supports DoD;s domestic role in countering and responding to Weapons of Mass Destruction Threats.
