MEMORANDUM FOR |
SECRETARIES OF THE MILITARY DEPARTMENTS |
SUBJECT: Department of Defense Reform Initiative Directive #52: Defense Acquisition University (DAU) Consolidation
This memorandum approves the consolidation of the Defense Acquisition University (DAU) to streamline the management of the DoD acquisition education and training programs. It reflects the recommendations of the September 1997 Report of the Acquisition Education and Training Process Action Team, and the August 1997 Management Reform Memorandum 3 Report. I approve the proposed unified organizational structure of the DAU. The unified structure will enable DAU to achieve economies, improve quality and establish the preeminent faculty required to meet the academic standards to be established by the Chancellor for Education and Professional Development. As part of DAU consolidation, I direct the transfer of DAU-funded positions (faculty and staff) from their current organizations to DAU (see attachment). This consolidation will be completed within 12 calendar months and within approved and projected DAU funding levels. During implementation, the President, DAU will submit quarterly progress reports to the USD(A&T). Point of Contact for DAU consolidation is Thomas M. Crean, President, Defense Acquisition University at (703) 845-6733. This Directive is effective immediately.
