Subject: Department of Defense Reform Initiative Directive #2 - New Defense Security Service
The Director, Defense Investigative Service, is directed to implement the integration of the Department of Defense Polygraph Institute, the Personnel Security Research Center, and the DoD Security Institute into the organizational structure of the Defense Investigative Service. This action shall be completed by December 31, 1997.
In recognition of the Defense Investigative Service's broader missions and functions, its name is hereby changed from the Defense Investigative Service to the Defense Security Service, effective immediately.
The Director of Administration and Management will revise DoD Directive 5105.42, "Defense Investigative Service," and other issuances as required to reflect these changes in the DoD Directive System; and ensure that all appropriate personnel actions are accomplished.
I request the Director, Defense Security Service, to effect an orderly integration, including issuing such instructions to affected personnel as may be necessary.
