The Iraqi army has increasingly taken the lead during the last year. The most recent province turned over was Maysan, which was the fourth province given provincial Iraqi control. Currently, 94 Iraqi battalions are in the lead across Iraq. The Iraq Progress Report shows the Iraqi army's progress on a month-by-month basis.

| Despite ongoing violence in some provinces, there are a vast array of promising indicators across a broad spectrum in Afghanistan—from security to education to health care. Afghanistan is now a fragile democracy, and a strong ally in the War on Terror. The Afghan people—with strong support from free nations across the globe—are building a future they can be proud of: secure and prosperous at home, and respected abroad. |
