Musical Tribute

The Memorial will be open to the public on Thursday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. To commemorate the Memorial's public opening, the Navy Band and the Sea Chanters Chorus - will perform a musical tribute from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the stage adjacent to the Memorial.

The United States Navy Band has been the Navy's premier musical organization since 1925. Located in the Sail Loft at the historic Washington Navy Yard, the Band presents honors at official ceremonies and memorial services in addition to performing hundreds of public concerts annually throughout the Washington metropolitan area and around the country. Recognized as "The World's Finest," the Band features some of the nation's top musicians and performs a wide variety of music ranging from classical orchestral works to original arrangements of current popular favorites, as well as traditional marches and patriotic fare.

The United States Navy Band "Sea Chanters" chorus is the official chorus of the United States Navy. The ensemble performs a variety of music ranging from traditional choral music, including the sea chantey, to Broadway musicals. The Sea Chanters are one of the most dynamic vocal ensembles in the country and are frequently found at the center of our most important national events, including the 55th Presidential Inauguration Ceremony in 2005. They have played a vital role in comforting the nation in times of mourning, including appearances at memorials for the astronauts of the space shuttle Columbia and the Presidential wreath laying ceremony at the United Airlines Flight 93 crashsite in Shanksville, Pa. Their performance of "Amazing Grace" at the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance at the National Cathedral in Washington after the events of 9/11 inspired all in attendance as well as a national television audience.
