MEMORANDUM FOR CORRESPONDENTS April 30, 1998

Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Technology Jacques Gansler will participate in a live television broadcast with senior Air Force military leaders and acquisition officials May 4 between 2:30-3:30 p.m. (EDT). The broadcast is part of the Department of Defense-wide Acquisition Reform Week III observance. The broadcast will be available by direct satellite on Galaxy 4 located at 99( West Longitude, Transponder 22 at 4140 MHz (vertical polarity) with Audio at 6.2 and 6.8 MHz. It will also be provided as streaming video on the Internet at http://www.safaq.hq.af.mil/reformweek. It will be sent to Air Force installations on the Air Force Education & Training Network.

The broadcast will originate from the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force. During the broadcast, the Air Force will introduce a new concept for acquisition reform designed to realize even greater efficiencies toward achieving better, faster, and cheaper. Entitled "Acquisition and Sustainment Reinvention Process," this new concept is designed to take installation, system and sustainment process improvement ideas directly from the workforce and industry and reengineer processes to result in an integrated acquisition system that is better, faster and cheaper.
