Sources of Data Retrieval

  • Crash Survivable Memory Unit (CSMU)
    • Recovered intact and all data retrieved
  • Additional data recovered: Not crashworthy by design
    • Vibration Structural Life & Engine Data (VSLED)
    • Flight Control Computers (FCC)
    • Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC)
    • Data Transfer Module (DTM)

Data Analysis Methodology

  • Retrieve as much data as possible through routine (voice, radar tapes, witness statements and documentation) and other extraordinary means
  • AMB organize and analyze data
  • Employ both government & contractor engineering expertise to verify accuracy of AMB data interpretations and systems theory of operation
  • Use of Boeing’s Flight Control System Integration Rig (FCSIR), Flight Simulation Lab (FSL) and the Software Integration Lab (SIL) in Philadelphia, the Full Flight Simulator at MCAS New River and the Manned Flight Simulator (MFS) at Patuxent River, to evaluate/further develop possible scenarios
