MEMORANDUM FOR CORRESPONDENTS March 4, 1999

As part of the Department of Defense's observance of National Women's History Month, on Monday, March 8, beginning at 2 p.m. (EST) there will be a ceremony in the Pentagon Auditorium, Room 5A1070, to commemorate civilian and military women in the Department of Defense. Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Force Management Policy Frank Rush Jr. is hosting the event. The featured speaker is Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs Dr. Sue Bailey.

The theme for the Department's observance is "Women Putting Our Stamp on America." The theme recognizes the enduring and continuing contributions of women to the security of our nation.

The program will also feature comments by Command Master Chief of the Naval School of Health Sciences Donna A. Williams, a recital by John Tyler Elementary School sixth grader Stephanie L. Gunn, and a musical selection by soloist Rhonda Baker.

Following the program, there will be a reception open to all in the Executive Dining Room on the 3rd floor, Corridor 10, of the Pentagon.

Media representatives interested in covering the observance or obtaining more information should contact Lt. Col. Dennis Ellis, Department of Defense Equal Opportunity Office, at (703) 697-6381.
