WASHINGTON, March 18, 2004 -- Two U.S. soldiers were killed and two were wounded during a firefight in Afghanistan's Oruzgan province today, U.S. Central Command officials announced in a news release.

Anti-coalition militia engaged coalition and Afghan National Army soldiers on patrol in a village northwest of Tarin Kowt. The soldiers returned fire, killing at least five terrorists and wounding others. The wounded soldiers were evacuated to the Kandahar Air Field for treatment, the news release said.

The names of the soldiers are being withheld until their families are notified.
