When I tried to unsubscribe, I received a message saying my address could not be found. Now what?

Here are some possibilities:

You may be subscribed under some variation of your address. For example, media@defenselink.mil and newsdesk@osd.mil are two variations of the same address and the same mailbox. To our mailing list software, these are two completely separate addresses. If you think you may be subscribed under some variation of your address, just unsubscribe any possible variation(s).

You may be subscribed under a different or old address that is autoforwarding to you. This is particularly likely if you changed jobs or Internet service providers after you subscribed. If you think you might be subscribed under some different or old address, just unsubscribe any of these former address(es).

You may be not subscribed directly with us. Instead you may be receiving our e-mails through a third party that is autoforwarding to you. If you think this might be the case, you will have to contact whoever is doing the autoforwarding and ask to be removed.

You may be already unsubscribed. Even though unsubscribing takes effect immediately, e-mails that were sent before you unsubscribed may not arrive until sometime later. This results from occasional but inevitable delays within the Internet e-mail system. No action is required on your part.

If you have tried to unsubscribe without success, please contact us for assistance.

Why have I stopped receiving your e-mails? Why was I automatically removed from your e-mail list?

Our system keeps track of error messages resulting from the e-mails we send. If our system receives repeated error messages from the same address, the system will automatically delete the address and send a notification message. The sole purpose of this automated process is to prevent our system from becoming overloaded.

If you have stopped receiving e-mails from us, it's possible that your address has been automatically deleted. Here's what to do:

  • Make sure your own e-mail system is functioning properly.
  • Make sure you know your correct e-mail address.
  • Re-subscribe.
  • Check DoD News on the Web for any items you may have missed.
