IRS Boosts Monthly Mass Transportation Subsidy Maximum

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Jan. 15, 2013 – The Internal Revenue Service has increased the mass transportation benefit program’s maximum monthly subsidy to $245 for 2013, Pentagon officials said here today.

Today is the deadline for riders whose mass-transit commuting costs exceed $240 a month to submit a new claim for up to $245 for February benefits.

No further action is required for riders whose certified commuting costs do not exceed $240 a month, officials said, and program participants may need to adjust their allocations to third-party providers, if applicable.

Officials emphasized that allocators should note time-sensitive instructions to increase their benefit allocation payment in time for February delivery.
