Hagel Pledges Continued U.S. Support for Ukrainian People

WASHINGTON, June 3, 2014 – During a meeting today in Brussels with Ukraine's acting defense minister, Gen. Col. Mykhaylo Koval, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel pledged continued U.S. support for the people of Ukraine.

Hagel also congratulated Koval on the success of recent elections in Ukraine, Pentagon Press Secretary Navy Adm. John Kirby said in a statement summarizing the meeting.

“The secretary made clear the U.S. government would continue to look for ways to improve the relationship between our two militaries,” Kirby added, “and he praised Ukrainian security forces for their professionalism in defense of their country.”
