1996 Armed Forces Boxing Tournament Results

FORT HUACHUCA, Ariz., Jan. 26, 1996 – The following are results of the 1996 boxing championships. Army boxers captured the team honors, placing 11 fighters into the finals and winning all 11 bouts. Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy followed.

Light Flyweight (106 pounds) Spc. Bradley Martinez (A, Fort Huachuca, Ariz.) def. Airman 1st Class Steven Franco (AF, Luke Air Force Base, Ariz.), referee stops contest 1 minute, 36 seconds, 1st round.

Flyweight (112) Pfc. John Medina (A, Fort Huachuca) def. Senior Airman Samuel Aponte (AF, Moody Air Force Base, Ga.), RSC 2:59, 1st Round.

Bantamweight (119) Seaman Steven Carter (N, USS Detroit) dec. Cpl. Steve Rosario (MC, Camp Lejeune, N.C.), 41.

Featherweight (125) Sgt. William Clay Jenkins (A, Fort Huachuca) def. Seaman Oscar Vallerodreguez (N, Camp Hunter, Calif.) RSCHead Blow, 1:58, 1st round.

Lightweight (132) Spc. Robert Bailey (A, Fort Bragg, N.C.) def. Lance Cpl. Lee Gladden, Jr. (MC, Camp Lejeune, N.C.), RSC 2:53, 2nd round.

Light Welterweight (139) Pfc. De Ron Ferguson (A, Fort Huachuca) dec. Cpl. Vincent Russell (MC, Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, S.C.), 50.
