New Addition to DefenseLINK Highlights Web Specials
American Forces Press Service
WASHINGTON, Sept. 24, 1999 Special, in-depth feature and news articles produced by the American Forces Information Service have a new home on DefenseLINK.
DefenseLINK users need only click on the "Defense Web Specials"
icon to access a single-page listing of the most recent Web specials. The page banners the latest Web special as well as linking to the previous 12 produced by the reporters and graphic developers of the American Forces Press Service.
The new page replaces the old headline-style listing with a graphically pleasing presentation of the specials as they first appeared on DefenseLINK. Included in the current listing are such specials as "Confronting Y2K," "Managing Your Finances," "Services Fraternization Policy," and "Defending Against Biological Agents," just to name a few. The latest web special - The Department of Defense Almanac - is highlighted at the top of the page.
As new Web specials are produced, they will replace the ones currently featured on the page. Those earlier web specials that no longer have a graphic icon link will still be available through a text link.
In addition to the Web specials, the new page also provides links to the home pages of all services and their online magazines. It also contains a "Current Issues" section that lists Web specials of more short-term interest, such as DoD relief efforts for Hurricane Floyd.
"This redesign and retooling of the Web specials section is part of our continuing effort to make DefenseLINK more user friendly," said Col. John Kehoe, director of information operations for AFIS. "Our Web specials may be the most informative and interesting products out there, but they have absolutely no value if our audience can't find them. That's why we've developed this new feature - to make it easy for our audience to get to the information they need."
