American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, Jan. 9, 2009 – More than 40 photographers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard are among the troops serving as part of the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee. They'll capture the activities behind the scenes and on Inauguration Day.

The committee is a joint-service organization responsible for providing military ceremonial support to the 56th Presidential Inauguration, which will take place on Jan. 20, 2009. AFIC carries on a tradition, which dates back more than 200 years, of honoring the new commander in chief and recognizing civilian control of the military.

Here's a photo essay showing the formation of the committee and some behind the scenes planning for the big day: Troops Make Up Armed Forces Inaugural Committee.
