In a combined operation with U.S. advisors northeast of Baghdad today, Iraqi forces arrested five suspected al-Qaida in Iraq criminal associates.

The Iraqi forces and U.S. advisors searched several buildings for a suspect in roadside-bomb attacks and arrested the five associates based on information and evidence gathered at the scene.

In Mosul yesterday, Iraqi forces working with U.S. advisors arrested a suspected high-level al-Qaida in Iraq leader who allegedly is involved in bribery and extortion of judicial officials in northern Iraq, along with two suspected associates.

The suspected al-Qaida in Iraq leader allegedly has contact with other high-level terrorist members, and is the leader of Islamic State of Iraq terrorist group’s efforts to bribe judicial officials and facilitate the release of accused terrorists from detention facilities, officials said.
