DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE EDUCATION ACTIVITY (DODEA)
The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) reports to the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness through the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Force Management Policy) (ASD(FMP)). The DoDEA serves as the principal staff advisor on activities and programs for eligible dependents of military service members and civilian personnel of the DoD stationed overseas and in certain continental states and US territories. The Director, DoDEA shall:
l Advise and act for the ASD(FMP) on all matters relative to the DoD Dependents Schools (DoDDS) and the DoD Domestic Elementary and Secondary Schools (DoD DDESS).
l Plan, direct, coordinate, and manage the DoDEA, its subordinate organizational elements, and all assigned resources.
l Formulate, administer, implement, and evaluate policies, guidelines, and standards as are required for the effective and efficient management of defense dependents education activities and programs.
l Provide representation and support to the ASD(FMP) in the development and justification of school construction, modification, and/or repair projects included in the annual military construction programs.
l Keep abreast of developments in the elementary, secondary, and higher education fields to ensure appropriate assimilation of new programs and technologies in the overseas and domestic dependents school systems.
l Provide DoDEA representation at meetings and deliberations of educational panels and advisory groups.
