DEFENSE ACQUISITION DESKBOOK WINS RETURN ON INVESTMENT CONTEST

Based upon customer survey results, which proved more than $118 million in annual savings with a return on investment of 25 to one, the Defense Acquisition Deskbook Joint Program Office was selected as the winner of the Return On Investment contest sponsored by the Army's Communication Electronics Command, System Management Center, Product Managers Small Computer Program.

Contest participants were judged by a panel of Army program managers whose primary objective was selecting the entry that best quantified its return on investment criteria. Contest coordinator Adelia Wardle said, "The Deskbook return on investment paper exceeded the requirements that we had levied. The Army's Small Computer Program models a small business and teamwork is our motto. Deskbook's team work effort in collecting their return on investment was the added criteria for selecting them as the winner."

Deskbook program manager Lt. Col. David London said, "Our primary focus wasn't in saving money, but to drive cultural change and improve the way the Department of Defense acquisition corps does business. We were aware that Deskbook was providing significant savings, but it wasn't until we conducted a customer survey that we learned the magnitude of the savings. Everyone in the program office is extremely proud to have been selected the winner of this award."

Deskbook is sponsored by the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition Reform and the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Technology/Acquisition Program Integration. The program provides an easy-to-use, automated information retrieval system and near real-time access to the most current acquisition policy and procedures information. It is the primary reference tool for the entire acquisition workforce, a means to integrate disciplines, and a vehicle to communicate acquisition reform.

Deskbook CD ROMs are available to government personnel at no cost and may be ordered by calling (937) 255-0423, or by website at http://www.deskbook.osd.mil.
