Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:
Marine Corps Lt. Gen. Joseph F. Weber has been nominated for appointment as the commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command; commanding general, Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic; and commander, U.S. Marine Corps Bases, Atlantic, and for reappointment to the grade of lieutenant general. Weber is presently serving as the commanding general, III Marine Expeditionary Force; commander, Marine Corps Bases Japan; and commander, Marine Forces Japan, Okinawa, Japan.
Marine Corps Lt. Gen. John G. Castellaw has been nominated for appointment as the deputy commandant of the Marine Corps for programs and resources, and for reappointment to the grade of lieutenant general. Castellaw is presently serving as the deputy commandant of the Marine Corps for aviation, Washington, D.C.
Marine Corps Maj.Gen. Richard C. Zilmer has been nominated for appointment as the commanding general, III Marine Expeditionary Force; commander, Marine Corps Bases Japan; and commander, Marine Forces Japan, and for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general. Zilmer is presently serving as the deputy commanding general, I Marine Expeditionary Force; and commanding general, 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
