SOUTHERN WATCH DEFENDERS REPORT SECOND HARM MISSILE LAUNCH ON IRAQI SAM SITE

At 4 a.m. (EST) this morning, an F-16 pilot assigned to the 4404th Wing (Provisional) fired a High Speed Anti Radiation Missile (HARM) after receiving an indication that his aircraft was being targeted by an Iraqi mobile surface to air missile system.

The engagement occurred at a location 25 miles from a similar incident which occurred on Saturday. Aircraft involved in both engagements were participating in Operation Southern Watch missions enforcing the no-fly zone over Southern Iraq.

The aircraft returned safely to its base of operation and the incident is under review.

The Operation Southern Watch mission continues as directed, including normal aircraft sorties throughout the no-fly zone.
