General Officer Announcement
Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has nominated Army Maj. Gen. John D. Gardner for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as deputy commander, Allied Land Component Command, Heidelberg, North Atlantic Treaty Organization. He most recently served as deputy commanding general (Detainee Operations)/commanding general, Task Force 134, Multi-National Force-Iraq.
