Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:
Army Maj. Gen. Benjamin R. Mixon has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as the commanding general, U.S. Army Pacific, Fort Shafter, Hawaii. Mixon is currently serving as the commanding general, 25th Infantry Division (light)/commanding general, Multi-National Division - North, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq.
Army Maj. Gen. David H. Huntoon, Jr. has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as director of the Army Staff, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C. Huntoon is currently serving as commandant, U. S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pa.
