DOD TAPS BATTLE CREEK FOR NEW CENTRALIZED CATALOGING CENTER
The Department of Defense announced today that the Battle
Creek Federal Center in Michigan has been selected as the site of
the new centralized Defense Cataloging Center. Battle Creek was
chosen based on analysis of data collected during a study that
looked at five potential locations for the center.
With the consolidation, Battle Creek becomes the only place
in the country where DoD will catalog its inventory of over
7,000,000 active items of equipment and spare parts. Current
estimates indicate the Department will save more than $35 million
over five years by consolidating all its cataloging functions
into one center.
As many as 300 jobs could move to Battle Creek with this
reorganization. The moves are scheduled to start in fiscal year
1998 and be completed in fiscal year 2000. Battle Creek already
is the home for the Air Force Cataloging and Standardization
Center and the Defense Logistics Services Center.
