U.S. EVACUATION OPERATIONS IN ALBANIA COMPLETED
The evacuation portion of Operation SILVER WAKE in Albania
concluded today. A contingent of approximately 100 U.S. Marines
will remain in Tirana, Albania, to provide security for the
American Embassy and housing compound there until appropriate
security arrangements can be reestablished in country.
Two U.S. Navy ships, USS Nashville and USS Ramage, currently
are off shore to provide logistic and communications support for
the Marines ashore.
During Operation SILVER WAKE nearly 900 citizens from the
United States and other countries were evacuated by the U.S. task
force.
