General Officer Announcements

            Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:
 
            Army Lt. Gen. Ronald L. Burgess Jr. has been nominated for reappointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as director, Defense Intelligence Agency, Washington, D.C. Burgess is currently serving as director of the intelligence staff, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Washington, D.C.
 
            Army Lt. Gen. Martin E. Dempsey has been nominated for appointment to the rank of general and assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Va. Dempsey was previously announced to serve as commanding general, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.
 
            Army Lt. Gen. Carter F. Ham has been nominated for appointment to the rank of general and assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany. Ham is currently serving as director for operations, J-3, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C.
 
            Army Lt. Gen. John F. Kimmons has been nominated for reappointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as director of the intelligence staff, Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Washington, D.C. Kimmons is currently serving as deputy chief of staff, G-2, United States Army, Washington, D.C.
 
            Army Lt. Gen. Richard P. Zahner has been nominated for reappointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as deputy chief of staff, G-2, U.S. Army, Washington, D.C. Zahner is currently serving as deputy under secretary of defense for intelligence, intelligence and warfighting support, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, Washington, D.C.
 
            Army Maj. Gen. Robert E. Durbin has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as special assistant to the chief of staff, Army for enterprise management, Washington, D.C. Durbin is currently serving as commanding general, 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley, Fort Riley, Kan.
