AIR FORCE TO ABSORB DEFENSE EVALUATION SUPPORT ACTIVITY

Deputy Secretary of Defense John W. White announced today that the Defense Evaluation Support Activity, with offices in Albuquerque, N.M., and Washington, D.C., will transfer functions and personnel to the Department of the Air Force by Sept. 30, 1997.

The Defense Evaluation Support Activity is responsible for providing the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Technology with specialized test and evaluation. It has been determined that equivalent capabilities now exist within the Services and Defense agencies which can adequately meet DoD needs. Consistent with DoD overall goals of reducing infrastructure, the Department can no longer justify the continued requirement for a separate activity.

DESA currently has approximately 124 assigned personnel of which 92 are civilian employees and 32 are military members.
