GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that he
has approved the retirement of Lt. Gen. William G. Carter III,
U.S. Army. Carter will retire after completion of more than 32
years of service. Since July 1, 1995, he has been serving as the
chief of staff, Allied Forces Southern Europe, Italy.
Carter was born on June 18, 1944, in Buffalo, N.Y.
