GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Maj. Gen. Montgomery C. Meigs, U.S. Army, for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Since July 1995, he has served as the commanding general, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army, Germany.
Meigs was born on Jan. 11, 1945, in Annapolis, Md.
