Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:
Army Maj. Gen. Guy C. Swan III has been nominated for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army North/Fifth U.S. Army, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Swan is currently serving as the chief of staff, Multi-National Force-Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq.
Army Brig. Gen. William N. Phillips has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as military deputy/director, Army Acquisition Corps, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology), Washington, D.C. Phillips is currently serving as commander Joint Contracting Command, Multi-National Forces-Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq.
