Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:
Army Maj. Gen. Richard P. Formica has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense/U.S. Army Forces Strategic Command. Formica is currently serving as the commander, Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan, U.S. Central Command, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.
Army Maj. Gen. Michael L. Oates has been nominated for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as director, Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization, Arlington, Va. Oates is currently serving as the commanding general, 10th Mountain Division (Light) and Fort Drum, Fort Drum, N.Y.
Army Brig. Gen. Charles J. Barr has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general. Barr is currently serving as chief of staff, Individual Mobilization Augmentee, U.S. Forces Korea, Yongsan, Korea.
