GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Maj. Gen. Roger G. Thompson Jr., U.S. Army, for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general and assignment as deputy commander in chief/chief of staff, United States Transportation Command, Scott AFB, Ill. Since October 1996, he has served as the director of the Army budget, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Financial Management), Washington, DC.
Thompson was born on Dec. 19, 1944, in Ashland, Ky.
