General Officer Announcement

                 Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nomination:

                 Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Juan G. Ayala has been nominated for appointment to the rank of major general.  Ayala is currently serving as the chief of staff, U.S. Southern Command, Miami, Fla.
