Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates announced today that the President has made the following nominations:
Marine Corps Maj. Gen. Richard P. Mills, who has been selected for the rank of lieutenant general, to serve as the deputy commandant for combat development and integration; commanding general, Marine Corps Combat Development Command; commander, U.S. Marine Forces Strategic Command; commanding general, Marine Corps National Capital Region Command; commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces National Capital Region; and commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Cyber Command. Mills is currently serving as the commanding general, I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward).
Marine Corps Lt. Gen. John R. Allen, has been selected to serve as the special assistant on Afghanistan and Iraq to the chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff. Lt. Gen. Allen is currently serving as the deputy commander, U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Fla.
Marine Corps Lt. Gen. George J. Flynn, has been selected to serve as the director, J-7, Joint Staff. Lt. Gen. Flynn is currently serving as the deputy commandant for combat development and integration in Quantico, Va.
