General Officer Announcement
Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta announced today that the President has nominated Army Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV for reappointment to the rank of lieutenant general and for assignment as commanding general, U.S. Army North/Fifth U.S. Army, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He is currently serving as commander, Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan/commander, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Training Mission-Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.
