GENERAL OFFICER ANNOUNCEMENT
Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen announced today that the President has nominated Maj. Gen. William F. Kernan, U.S. Army, for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general with assignment as commanding general, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, Fort Bragg, N.C.
Kernan is currently serving as the commanding general, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell, Fort Campbell, Ky.
Kernan was born January 29, 1946, in Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
