Acting Secretary of the Army Robert M. Walker has announced the designation of Jason L. Spiegel, acting assistant secretary of the Army (Manpower and Reserve Affairs), as the Army's representative to the Reserve Forces Policy Board effective Feb. 24, 1998.
The 24-member board was created by Congress in 1952.
Acting through the assistant secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, the board serves as the principal policy advisor to the secretary of Defense on reserve component matters.
Members include the assistant secretary responsible for reserve affairs from each of the military departments, and active and reserve component general and flag officers representing all Services, including the Coast Guard.
Spiegel has served in his current position since November 1997, where he is the Army's chief human resource management official.
He is responsible for all Army military and civilian personnel policy and is the senior-most advocate for the reserve components.
He oversees all Army policy involving training, force readiness, health care and quality of life.
Spiegel also supervises the Board for Correction of Military Records and similar agencies.
Prior to being named the acting assistant secretary, he served as the deputy assistant secretary for Force Management, Manpower & Resources.
Spiegel and his wife, Deborah, have two children; Kyle and Alicia.
